Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Prevent messy spills, drips and dribbles. The Avent Magic Cup is made with a patented easy-flow valve, which stops flowing as soon as your child stops drinking. The cup's soft-sip spout feels natural to babies, and as she grows teeth, just switch to the firmer Toddler Spouts (sold separately; designed for use with Magic Cup). Plus, Magic Cups are made from a durable, translucent polypropylene plastic, so you can always see when your baby needs a refill. Perfect for any kind of juice -- even drinks with heavy pulp. Dishwasher and sterilizer safe. p This special Trainer version of the Magic Cup features easy-grip handles specially contoured for small fingers. The handles attach and detach easily, so the cup can be used with handles or alone. Handles also fit all Avent Reusable Bottles (sold separately). Set includes two 9-ounce Magic Cups and handles./p

1 out of 5 stars Nothing magical about these cups   November 17, 2008

These cups leak like crazy! I took pictures of them leaking. I will be uploading them into amazon's product picture page, we'll see if it's approved. There is a hole at the base of the nozzle, right where it meets the colored plastic. I don't know why the hole is there, but all of the cups have this design flaw. Don't waste your money on these cups. They are cute, but they leak and make a terrible mess. I've tried gerber cups and those were a lot better.

3 out of 5 stars Not great for beginner sippy cups but works ok   September 27, 2008
I tried to start my daughter on these cups when she was 8 months but they were too hard for her to get anything out of. It took until she was 12-13 months before she could actually drink from them. The issue now I have is that the top air vent leaks when she throws it down or shakes it. She does like the handles and the spout though. I also like that they have a lid. However, I think we are going to switch to Playtex. I used them with my son with great success. They don't come with lids but I didn't have the issue of them leaking as I do with the Avent.

5 out of 5 stars Nice sippy   March 21, 2008

I have used these with both my children. They have never leaked. I can toss one in my bag and not worry. I find them much easier to clean than other sippys. The valve is very simple to take on and off. I only wash them by hand. Putting any plastic cup/lid in the dishwasher (or microwave for that matter) will warp the plastic and cause leaking.

5 out of 5 stars Only trainers we use...   March 7, 2008
This is the only kind of trainer/sippy we use in our house. We started with the soft-spout 5oz ones; my son, now 2.5, was breastfed and refused a bottle. We introduced a cup around 6 months and this was the only one he would use (initially with the valve off to help him 'get' the concept). Later, we added the valve to make them leakproof (we've never had problems with leaks). We switched to the larger 9 oz "toddler" cups with the harder spout when he was around 12 months or so, mostly because we were happy with the Avent infant trainers we had been using and we could inerchange parts with them; they are pretty much the same (save for the size and a hard plastic spout vs a softer rubbery one). I do prefer the updated valve design. The first ones we bought feature a 2 part valve system that snaps into the spout, while the updated ones feature a 1 part valve system. They seem to function the same, with the newer ones having 1 less part, which is good. I'm not sure they even sell the older design anymore. I also ditched the handles pretty early on as they weren't necessary. They were good to have when he was first learning to hold a cup, but we haven't really used them much after that. They just got in the way, particularly when carrying the cup in the bottle pocket of a diaper bag. The handles are easliy removable. I find these cups to be very easy to clean (we usually toss ours in the dishwasher, valves spouts going into a basket to keep them together). I much prefer them over the straw-sippys for that reason. They are kind of boring, but we try to stay away from licensed character stuff anyway so not an issue here. I am also pleased to find that these cups are BPA-free.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST have   January 6, 2008
I give 5 stars to all Avent Products. I have had no problems, whatsoever, with Avent. My Grandson, at 8 months, is completely off the bottle and is taking formula, juice, and water from his "sippy cup". We are thrilled.
