Product Description The PREVENTIC Tick Collar by VIRBAC is the only tick collar that detaches and kills ticks effectively. It is effective for 3 months and is a good complement to Advantage or PROGRAM when tick protection is also required. Recommended for use on dogs/puppies 3 months and older. DIRECTIONS: Place the collar around the dog's neck, adjust for proper fit and buckle in place. Cut off and dispose of excess length. The collar must be worn tightly enough to contact skin and so the dog cannot remove it.

Preventic Tick Collar December 21, 2008 This is a wonderful product. The ticks do not die hanging on to the dog, they actually fall off, as their mouths become paralyzed. So no more hunting for ticks, or worrying that they may bite you and then die stuck in your body. They die before they can transfer any disease to you or your dog. I have used other products but this is the best on the market.
Tick Collar May 25, 2008 I've used these collars before, and they are effective at preventing ticks from attaching to the dog's skin; however, they don't prevent the dog from bringing ticks inside the house. Also, the listing neglected to say that the 25" collar is for dogs over 60 lbs, which is an important piece of information to include. I have a 6 lb. dog and was worried that the bigger collar might have too strong a dose of the tick killer in it. I will go to the entirely pets website directly next time.
Excellent product July 24, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Our black lab was infested with ticks. We would pull them all off and she would go outside and they would get back on her. She was wearing the K9 Advantix which did absolutely nothing to prevent them. We put this collar on her and within a week the ticks were gone and we have not had a problem since. This collar is highly recommended! Her skin is pretty sensitive but she has not had any problem with the collar at all. br /
Works well to prevent Ticks from attaching to your Dog March 15, 2007 As stated, these collars are intended to prevent Ticks from attaching to your dog. This is NOT a Flea collar. You may still find ticks that end up walking around on your dog, but this collar will likely kill them or keep them from biting/latching on to your dog. Here's how we started using Preventic collars:br /We started using Frontline about 6 years ago and although we continue to use it today, we were finding ticks still attached to our dogs, engorged with blood. After we lost one of our dogs to Lyme's Disease, we decided to try these Preventic collars in addition to the Frontline. I know we are 'double-dosing' our dogs by using 2 products at once (and we get reprimanded by our Vet) - but after 2 years of using Frontline AND Preventic, the dogs have not had an adverse reaction, and it is VERY rare that we ever find a tick attached to any of our dogs.br /***I don't recommend that everyone start using both Preventic and Frontline. We were desperate - we wanted to protect our dogs from the fate that one experienced. Using both could pose a health risk for your dog.br /I've heard very good results from people who use the Advantix product on their dogs, but it is VERY dangerous to use around cats (we have too many cats that rub on the dogs) and although we did try the Advantix once on our dogs - all of our dogs had a reaction (itchy) to it.br /So, until something else comes on the market that produces better results, we're sticking with the Frontline and these Preventic collars. These collars are also packaged under the name Zema - also made by Virbac, Inc. and have the same ingredient (9% Amitraz). I don't know if they are exactly the same or not. The Preventic collar states that it will kill ticks UP TO 90 days. The Zema collar (formally known as "Tick Arrest" collars) state that they kill ticks for 75 days and I've found that they are a little less expensive.br /Hope that helps!
